15-5PH · Precipitation-Hardening Martensitic Stainless Steel
A highly alloyed, stainless, precipitation-hardening steel with a martensitic structure – an excellent combination of strength, hardness and corrosion resistance. Tennant Metall supplies 15-5PH in tested quality ex stock Herne – for aerospace, petrochemical and food industries.
What is 15-5PH?
15-5PH (material number 1.4545) is a highly alloyed, stainless, precipitation-hardening steel with a martensitic structure. It offers excellent mechanical properties in terms of strength and hardness, combined with very good corrosion resistance – including against acetic acid, salt, nitric acid or sodium hydroxide at low concentrations.
15-5PH is metallurgically closely related to 17-4PH but offers better transverse toughness thanks to its purer, more homogeneous structure. Tennant Metall supplies the grade solution annealed or in various aged conditions (H900 to H1150), on request including machining and a 3.1 mill certificate per EN 10204.

| H1100 | 965 N/mm² | 793 N/mm² | 14 % |
| H1150 | 931 N/mm² | 724 N/mm² | 16 % |
Typical values per AMS 5659 for the aged condition. In the solution-annealed condition (Condition A) the material is comparatively soft and readily machinable.
3 · Heat Treatment
Typical Values| Solution Annealing | 1025–1060 °C, air |
| Aging H900 | 482 °C, 1 h, air |
| Aging H925–H1150 | 496–621 °C, 4 h, air |
Typical values per AMS 5659. Where stress-corrosion cracking is a concern, the highest aging temperature (min. 550 °C) that still meets the required strength should be selected.
